Frankenstein is the tragic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist undone by his own hubris in bringing back the dead. I wanted to make a tribute to this classic of Gothic literature with a new look for the hardcover. The dust jacket was designed in a flat style that depicts the Creature’s anguish at being abandoned to die in the laboratory fire his creator started to hide his existence from the world. The Creature has wings as a reference to how he compares himself to Adam and a fallen angel when he confronts Victor.
The dust jacket was put over a copy of Piranesi I had lying around, so the golden pattern in the interior pages isn’t mine. Fitting though!
